This is a kind of decent surprise for a comic in The New 52 I think. It is exactly what it sounds like. It is a military based comic. There are two stories in it at this point. The first one is Sgt Rock as the second one seems to be a war story based on Navy seals. I really didn't expect this one and am pretty pleased.
The what I will consider main story is written by Ivan Brandon. I do not know if this guy has written anything before honestly. This story though is well written and brings Sgt Rock into modern times quite well. I say that because I always felt he didn't age well as a character. The artist is Tom Derenick who again, I am not aware of seeing his art before. It is realistic animation is how I describe it in my mind. It is just slightly more exaggerated proportions on the people but that is not so much that it takes away from the realistic story.
The second story is as a stated about some Navy Seals. It is written by Jonathan Vankin, who I have not read anything from before, I believe he tried to stay accurate to the real world Seals and did decent enough for a comic book I believe. Phil Winslade, the artist, has kind of an '80s look to his art. It is fantastic for that time I would say.
Over all this is a surprising little book that I really wasn't expecting. I recommend anyone giving it a try and you won't be disappointed in it.
Until nest time Peace Out
